Kathleen Marie Hicks was born on March 2, 1967, in Denison, Iowa to John and Marilyn (Goeser) Murphy. She grew up in Dunlap and graduated in the Class of 1985. Kathleen moved to Omaha where she attended the University of Nebraska and worked at Woolworth. On August 18, 1988, Kathleen was united in marriage to Jeff Hicks in Omaha with a reception to follow at the St. Patrick Parish Center in Dunlap, Iowa. The couple lived for a short time in Sioux City, Iowa before moving to Omaha. Kathleen loved working with little children. She worked at KinderCare in Omaha and then went to work for La Petite for 23 years. She then went back to work for KinderCare. Kathleen and Jeff later moved to Dunlap.

Kathleen was a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dunlap. She loved Bunco and enjoyed her monthly game nights. She liked jewelry and crafts. She also loved traveling, especially to visit her cousins in Arizona. Most of all, Kathleen loved her family.

Kathleen died unexpectantly on Monday, December 20, 2021, at home in Dunlap, Iowa at the age of 54 years, nine months and 18 days.

Kathleen was preceded in death by her father, John Murphy and her sister, Patricia Murphy. She is survived by her husband, Jeff Hicks of Dunlap; three daughters, Katelyn and her husband Ethan York, Remy Hicks and her fiancé Danny Meyer and Abbie Hicks all of Omaha, Nebraska; mother, Marilyn Murphy of Dunlap, Iowa; brother, Mike Murphy and his wife Rebecca of San Antonio, Texas; and many other relatives and friends.
