Larry Pape

A CELEBRATION OF LIFE FOR LARRY AND DONNA WILL BE HELD AT THE CREW CENTER IN WOODBINE ON SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 15TH FROM 2-4 P.M.

Larry Duane Pape was born on April 5, 1937, in Pisgah, Iowa to Walter and Leila (Woodward) Pape. He grew up in Pisgah on a stretch of road that connected the two hollows joining the foothills of the Missouri River bottom. Larry graduated from Pisgah High School with the Class of 1954. After graduating Larry worked in construction for two years. He then embarked on his next adventure by proudly serving in the Navy for two years. Following his service, he pursued higher education in Omaha, focusing on Farm Management. On September 27, 1959, Larry was united in marriage to Donna Lee (Neill) Pape. Together, they created a warm and loving home east of Pisgah. They were blessed with three boys: Scott Anthony, Todd Duane and Dane Michael.

In early retirement Larry and Donna lived in Bella Vista, Arkansas where they enjoyed the many flea markets and estate sales together. They created many memories and made some special friendships before returning to Iowa to be near family.

Larry had a passion for the farm. He spent many fulfilling years raising crops and Limousin cattle. Larry enjoyed playing cards, fishing, golf and being a member of the Cattlemen’s Association. After moving to Woodbine, he took great pride in being a member of American Legion Weiss Post 143. Writing was a love of Larry’s, and he was published in Our Iowa magazine two times. Despite facing health struggles, Larry approached each challenge with a brave heart and an enduring spirit. He was a good and honest man with a quick wit. He loved visiting with people and learning their stories; he was a great friend to many. He left a legacy of integrity and kindness.

His greatest joy was his family and he couldn’t wait to learn of the latest accomplishments of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His final days were spent living back on the farm that he loved with his family by his side.

Larry passed away on Monday, January 19, 2026, at CHI Health, Missouri Valley, Iowa at the age of 88 years, nine months and 14 days.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Donna Pape; and granddaughter, Amanda Pape. He is survived by his sons: Scott and his wife Brenda Pape of Little Sioux, Iowa and their children and grandchildren; Nicole Carritt and Lee Kelsey of Grimes, Iowa (Kai, Teagan and Myles Carritt, Mila and Camden Kelsey); Brandy and Wes Chisnall of Windsor, Colorado (Cason and Willa); and Brandon and Lisa Pape of Little Sioux (Merrett, Kypson, Krue and Ryann); Todd and his wife Casey Pape and their sons, Tucker Pape and Tate Pape all of Pisgah; and Dane and his wife Heidi Pape of Pisgah and their daughter and grandchildren, Cassidy and Matthew Simons (Sutton and Swade) of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota; and many other relatives and friends.
