Larry Wayne VanArsdol Bloom was born on December 24, 1949, to Wayne and Rosemary (Shadden) VanArsdol in Logan, Iowa. Wayne died when Larry was just two years old and after Rosemary married Donald Bloom, he and Gail were both adopted by Donald. He went to school in Woodbine and graduated in the class of 1968. He later moved to Iowa where he lived with Brian in Des Moines and then to Atlanta, Georgia to be with his mother. Bruce and Deb moved him to Omaha, Nebraska for a time and then he decided to move back to Woodbine.
Larry was in a band in high school and also enjoyed playing basketball and being on the swim team. He wrote for the Woodbine Twiner and the Daily Iowan Newspaper at the University of Iowa. Most of all, Larry loved to spend time reading and writing.
