Lawrence Russell "Mac" Makinen was born April 25, 1935, in Eveleth, Minnesota to Sakri and Hilda (Moilanen) Makinen. He was raised in the Sparta Location in Minnesota and graduated from Gilbert High School in 1953. Mac proudly served his country in the U. S. Army & Air Force. Mac married Judy Ann Daugherty on February 19, 1963, at the United Methodist Church in Woodbine. The couple lived in Woodbine and then moved to Blair, Nebraska in 1975. Mac worked at Kelly Ryan, Coastal Yachts and Con-e-co all in Blair. He retired from Con-e-co and then worked for Ace Hardware also in Blair.
Mac was a member of the Blair American Legion. He enjoyed reading, watching Nascar and the Price is Right. He also enjoyed traveling and going to the casino
Mac died Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at the Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 79 years, three months, and 26 days.
Mac was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Judy on July 3, 2009; sister, Laila Korpi; and sister-in-law, Phyllis Hutcheson. He is survived by his three children, Todd and his wife Carla Makinen of Orr, Minnesota, Troy Makinen of Mountain Iron, Minnesota, Staci Makinen of Blair, Nebraska; two grandchildren, Randi Makinen of Omaha and Trisha Makinen of Orr; great granddaughter, Gethsemane Cordes; brother-in-law, Bill Hutcheson and his wife Diana of Woodbine, Iowa; four nieces, Karen Soyring of Virginia, Minnesota, Becky and her husband Ed Moeglein of Wolf Creek, Montana, Donna Draze of Mountain Iron, Minnesota, Lori and her husband Kevin Gochenour of Logan, Iowa; nephew, Steve Hutcheson and his wife Mary of Kansas City, Missouri; and many other relatives and friends.
