Leonard Miller

     Leonard Darrell Miller was born on April 1,1942, to Isidore and Hazel (Brown) Miller. He was born East of Dunlap, Iowa in Grove Township. Leonard attended Country School and then Dunlap School, graduating in 1961. On November 16, 1963, Leonard married Helen Ronk at the St. John Lutheran Church in Dunlap. After high school he worked at Furniture Frames in Dunlap with his dad. Then he worked for Tyson/ IBP for 43 years, retiring in April of 2008. He loved to drive tractors and helped many local farmers over the years in the evenings. Leonard was a member of his church counsel, Dunlap School board and Harrison Township board. He also volunteered for 55 years to run the chains at the high school football games.

     Leonard was known for his profound love of the outdoors and enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing. He had an undeniable love for the game of golf, a passion he cherished not only for himself but also for the moments it brought as he proudly shared his knowledge with his sons. Leonard also found joy sitting in the patio room watching westerns or listening to country music. Leonard cherished his family deeply and took great joy in the moments spent with his grandchildren, whom he affectionately referred to as his “little darlings”.

     Leonard died on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at his home in Dunlap at the age of 83 years, five months and 15 days.

     Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Georgiann Krajicek and John Miller. He is survived by his wife of 61years Helen; daughter, Julie and her husband Ted Kline of Blair, Nebraska; sons, Jeffrey Miller and his wife Jennifer, Steve Miller and his wife Michelle and Craig Miller and his wife Kelly all of Dunlap; grandchildren, Spencer Miller, Jacob Miller, Abbie Miller, Maci Miller and Reese Miller; great grandson, Emmett Miller; brother, Gene Miller and his wife Janice of Denison, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.

MEMORIAL DONATIONS MAY BE MADE TO ST. LUTHERAN CHURCH, DUNLAP AMERICAN LEGION POST # 224 OR THE DUNLAP FOOD PANTRY.
