Leslie Allan Bennett was born on February 18, 1955, in Norfolk, Nebraska to Willis and Jean (Helmberger) Bennett. He grew up in Battle Creek, Nebraska where he attended school and graduated in 1973. On November 22, 1974, Les was united in marriage to Cheryl Erickson and they were blessed with five children, Keysha, Bobbi, Angie, Jessica and Tyler. Les found his passion working various jobs in the hog industry. His last position was as the Midwest Production Manager for Smithfield/Murphy Farms, where he worked from 1996 until his retirement in 2013.

Les had a zest for life, exuding joy and laughter wherever he went. One of his greatest passions was gambling, particularly horse and dog races. Whether it was the thrill of wagering or the exhilaration of witnessing fierce competition, Les found excitement at these events. He also loved his Nebraska Cornhuskers and squirrel hunting. Aside from sports, Les had an unparalleled talent for cracking jokes. He had a gift for finding humor in everyday situations, reminding us all to laugh in the face of adversity. Most of all, Les loved his family.
