Lloyd DeForest

Lloyd Delvin DeForest was born October 18, 1937, to Jesse Delvin and Eldora (Thomas) DeForest in Dunlap, Iowa. He attended country school near Woodbine and graduated from Woodbine High School in 1956. Lloyd started farming with his parents. He then attended auctioneering school in Mason City and auctioneered for a while. On March 6, 1960, Lloyd married Patricia Hopkins. The couple continued farming and farmed until his retirement in 2007.

Lloyd was a member of the First Christian Church. He was a church elder and held various offices. He was also a member of the Woodbine Saddle Club. Lloyd loved animals, music and carpentry. He played the banjo and Pat and Lloyd would entertain people with their music. For the past 14 years, Lloyd and Pat hosted the second grade pen pal trip for the students from inner-city Omaha.

Lloyd died on Saturday, June 15, 2013, at the Community Hospital in Missouri Valley, Iowa at the age of 75 years, seven months, and 28 days.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Pat DeForest of Woodbine, Iowa; two sons, Mike DeForest and his wife Karen of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Mitch DeForest and his wife Michelle of Amarillo, Texas; five grandchildren; sister, Janice and her husband Dr. Ray Koski of Dunlap, Iowa; brother, Karol "Woody" DeForest and his wife Connie of Woodbine; and many other relatives and friends.
