Lloyd Alvin "Al" Penrose, Jr. was born October 16, 1933, to Lloyd and Irene (Sherman) Penrose in Buffalo, New York. He was raised in Buffalo and Long Island, New York where he received his education. Al proudly served his country in the United States Navy for four years and in the Navy Reserves for an additional four years. After his honorable discharge he returned to New York and worked for United Airlines. On November 4, 1958, Al married Althea Willis in the Christian Church in Woodbine, Iowa. The couple returned to New York to live. After one year they returned to Woodbine. Al worked in Omaha for United Airlines and then transferred back to New York. In 1965 he started in the lumber business and became a buyer for other wood companies. Al never really retired. In 1992 they moved to Logan.

Al was a member of the Episcopal Church, but he attended the Woodbine United Methodist Church. He maintained his pilot's license and loved to fly. He also treasured spending time with his family, fishing, and car racing. When he first got out of the Navy he was on a pit crew for a racing team.

Al died on Saturday, February 11, 2012, at the Veterans' Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 78 years, three months, and 26 days.

Al was preceded in death by his father; two great grandchildren; and brother-in-law, Joseph Schwork. He is survived by his wife, Althea Penrose of Logan, Iowa; three children, Bill (Yvette) Penrose of McGregor, Iowa, Dale (Pam) Penrose of Webster Grove, Missouri, Sharon Penrose of Westphalia, Iowa; six grandchildren; six step grandchildren; six great grandchildren; mother, Irene Penrose of Martinsburg, West Virginia; sister, Shirley Schwork of Martinsburg, West Virginia; brother, Larry (Ruth) Penrose of Inwood, West Virginia; and many other relatives and friends.
