     Lorraine passed away peacefully at her home in Mondamin, Iowa, on Friday, May 8, 2026, at the age of 69.
Born in Augusta, Georgia, Lorraine was the youngest of seven children born to Melvin and Laura (Berryman) Howard. She graduated from Lucy C. Laney High School and later became a devoted mother to four children: David Russell “Rusty,” Crystal Yvonne, Edward Scott “Scotty,” and Stephanie Diane. Her children were the greatest joy of her life, though she bravely endured the heartache of losing both sons at young ages.
      A cross-country trip with her parents as a child sparked a lifelong sense of adventure. Lorraine lived in several states before settling in Wyoming to care for family. In 2016, she moved to Iowa to be closer to her youngest daughter.
     For twenty-five years, Lorraine served as a dedicated Certified Nursing Assistant, caring for others with compassion and commitment. After relocating to Iowa, she continued this calling at Crossroads in Missouri Valley until her retirement in 2020.
Lorraine found joy in crocheting, reading books of many genres, playing games on her phone, tablet, and classic Nintendo, and watching crime dramas and K-Dramas. She held a deep passion for genealogy and cherished time spent with family, especially her daughter Stephanie, daughter-in-law Dusti, and their foster children. She was a proud member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, William Lester Chapter, in Prosperity, South Carolina.
     Lorraine’s life was a beautiful testament of love, care, and quiet strength.

     Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Laura Howard, and her sons, Rusty and Scotty. She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Wininger and wife Dusti of Mondamin, Iowa and daughter, Crystal Workman and husband Lonny of Casper, Wyoming; biological grandchildren, James, Carrie, and Austin; great-grandson, Urijah; numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Jesse “Tom” (Diane) Howard-Burns of Australia, Victor Howard of Washington, Jessica Howard  of South Carolina, Lois (Lewis) Rodgers of South Carolina, Carolyn (Don) Martin of North Carolina, and Georgianne (Daniel) Phillips  of Georgia; her beloved 22-year-old miniature chihuahua, Minnie.
