Lyda Mae (Van Horn) Geise was born on August 2, 1938, to Harry and Barbara Elizabeth "Liz" (Walder) Van Horn in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Lyda's dad died when she was two and her mother never remarried. Lyda was raised in Blaunox, Pennsylvania and graduated from Aspinwall High School. On August 31, 1957, Lyda married Fred Geise, Jr. The couple settled in the Logan area and farmed. Lyda was very much a part of the farming operation. Fred died on May 1, 2003, and Lyda moved into Logan in 2008.
Lyda was a member of the United Methodist Church in Logan. Lyda and Fred loved attending the children's and grandchildren's school events. Lyda enjoyed swimming at the YMCA and watching any sports. She also enjoyed gardening, baking, crafts and decorating for weddings. Most importantly she enjoyed making everyone happy with her witty sense of humor.
Lyda died on Friday, April 7, 2017, at the Immanuel Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 78 years, eight months, and five days.
Lyda was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fred Geise; and all of her siblings, Harry Van Horn, Roy Van Horn, Marge De Long, Helen Cordwell, and Donna Karcher. She is survived by her six children, Barb (Dennis) Oliver of Logan, Iowa, Steve (Susan) Geise of Blair, Nebraska, Beverly (Bill) Kennedy of Escondido, California, Scott (Alicia) Geise of Rancho Santa Margarita, California, Dave (Ginger) Geise of Logan, Iowa, Diane (Dale) Rief of Crescent, Iowa; 10 grand-children; two+ great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
