Lynn Houghton “Minnie” Royer was born on August 23, 1933, near Woodbine, Iowa to Clarence and Edna (Houghton) Royer. He started his schooling at Olympus Country School and graduated from Woodbine High School with the class of 1951. Minnie then started working at the Harrison County REC as a lineman. He enlisted into the US Marine Corps and proudly served for two years. Following his honorable discharge, Minnie attended a school in Omaha learning the auto body trade. Minnie married Jean Thomas on September 5, 1956, at the First Lutheran Church in Missouri Valley. Minnie operated the Royer Body Shop for 60 years. He also owned the C & R Hardware Store in Woodbine for a short time.
Minnie was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Missouri Valley. He was an avid Woodbine sports fan and Iowa Hawkeye fan, He also loved to fish, play the guitar, sing, and he also enjoyed his afternoon coke at the local drugstore. The couple enjoyed playing cards and they belonged to a card club.
Minnie died on Wednesday, September 5, 2018, at the Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine at the age of 85 years and 13 days.
Minnie was preceded in death by his parents; four siblings and siblings-in-law, Katherine & Romaine Adams, Carolyn & Walter Babl, Bob & Betty Royer and Betty and Bill Thomas. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jean Royer of Woodbine, Iowa; three children, Dan “Curly” Royer and his wife Sharon of Woodbine, Iowa, Julie and her husband Mike Kleffman of Harlan, Iowa and Jim Royer and his wife Jayna of Woodbine, Iowa; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
