Mabel Byrd (Trimble) Mackey was born April 16, 1906, to Clarence Bush and Lucy (Jones) Trimble in St. Joseph, Missouri. Mabel was raised in the Hamburg, Iowa area and graduated from high school there. She worked for Mada Larson as a nanny for a few years. On November 30, 1925, Mabel married James Earl Mackey. The couple lived in Hamburg and then Missouri before moving to Woodbine in 1942. Earl died on July 22, 1982.

Mabel was a member of the Presbyterian Church. She loved to sew and work with flowers. She was very devoted to her family. She also loved to read anything by her favorite author, Grace Livingston Hill.

Mabel died on Friday, March 15, 2013, at the Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine, Iowa at the age of 106 years, 10 months, and 27 days.

Mabel was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, James E. Mackey, Jr.; two daughters, Shirley Kay Corbett and Donna Lynn Perse; grandson, Ed Corbett and brother, Frederick Trimble. She is survived by four daughters, Mabel Lee Brummer of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Marilyn Louise Connell of Omaha, Nebraska, Carol Rae and her husband Bill Morrison of Woodbine, Iowa and Janet Gayle and her husband Terry Heig of Sun City West, Arizona; son-in-law, Harold Perse of Denver, Colorado; 21 grandchildren; numerous great and great-great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
