Mae Erlewine

Creola Mae Erlewine was born December 19, 1915, to Hiram and Violet (Burch) Vroman in Cherryvale, Kansas. The family moved to Colorado and then to Woodbine. Mae graduated from the Woodbine High School in 1933. Mae married Dale Erlewine on October 1, 1935. They made their home in Woodbine until they moved to Dunlap in 1968 and then to several places in Oregon with Rockaway Beach, Oregon being her favorite place. Dale died in 1989 and Mae returned to Woodbine in 1991.

Mae was a member of Sacred Heart Church, the Legion Auxiliary, the Eastside Club and the Cousins' Club. Mae loved spoiling her grandchildren, and she enjoyed quilting. When Mae lived in Oregon she played the organ at her church.

Mae died on Wednesday, September 26, 2012, at Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine at the age of 96 years, nine months, and seven days.

Mae was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dale Erlewine; two grandsons, James Holloway and Andrew Sampson; three brothers, Donald, Melvin and Roy Vroman; and two sisters, Alice Yeager and Lanore Speake. She is survived by her seven children, Connie McWhirter, Cathy Searcy, Pat (Glenda) Erlewine all of Woodbine, Iowa, Jeanne (Bob) Holloway of Crooked River Ranch, Oregon, Bob (Sandy) Erlewine of Brownsville, Oregon, Tom (Judy) Erlewine of Woodbine, Iowa, Bill (Dawna) Erlewine of Anchorage, Alaska; 21 grandchildren; many great grand-children and step grandchildren; sister, Eva Speake of Woodbine, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
