Marcella Millard

Sioux City, Iowa

Marcella Doretta (DeMay) Millard, 83, of Sioux City died Wednesday, November 17, 2004. Marcella was born December 6, 1920, on a farm outside of Denison to Henry and Doretta (Meggers) DeMey. She married Dale Millard on January 1, 1940, in Sioux City. There were married 55 years. Dale died in August of 1995.

For many years Marcella owned and operated Marcella's Fitness Club where she taught fitness to many women. Upon her retirement, she was an avid gardener of vegetables and flowers. It has been said by many that she grew the biggest and best tomatoes in all of Iowa. Marcella enjoyed telling stories of being the oldest of 12 children, growing up on a farm, and stories of hardships and many good times. She was always the core and rock of the family. She was the one that held all things together in the bad times. Although she was an optimist, she always found many things to keep her worried because she cared so much. She will be missed by her sons, "The Boys" as she called them and all who knew her.

Marcella was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one son, Edmund (Hez) Millard in 1986. She is survived by three sons, Duke Millard and his wife Judy of Dumas, Texas, Short Millard and his wife Fred of Augusta, Georgia, Nick Millard and his wife Margaret of Sioux City, Iowa; 12 grand children; 18 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
