Marjorie Jean McCord was born on September 4, 1929, at the farm at Nelson Hollow west of Dunlap, home of her parents, Marcus Sr. ‘Doc’ and Phyllis (Widney) Miles. She was their third child, Barbara ‘Barby’ and Edward ‘Bud’ before her followed by Marcus Jr. ‘Sonny’, James ‘Jim’, Richard ‘Rich’ and Mary Ellen after her. Marge attended Boyer Valley No. 9 country school for eight years, then attended Dunlap High School graduating with the class of 1947. She married her high school sweetheart, Lyle Clair McCord on May 10, 1947. Clair farmed with his parents for a few years then he and Marge rented farms in Monona and Harrison County until they bought farmland in Monona County. They also purchased and ran the “Gold Slipper” in Dunlap for a while. The couple farmed on their own for 23 years, until Clair’s death in 1971.

After Clair’s passing, Marge worked at Dunlap High School for three years. She moved to Omaha, Nebraska after both Greg and Tom finished high school and then moved to Longmont, Colorado for eight years to be close to her mother in her last years, and also four of her siblings. In 1991, when she heard the news that she was going to be a grandma, she moved back to Omaha and then to the Ridgewood Senior Living Center in Bennington where she made many great friends. She enjoyed spending time with Jake, Luke and Drew, filling a big void in her life. She attended their ballgames and school and music activities. Marge loved being with her family and friends, and she especially loved to travel. She was a long-time member of the Dunlap United Methodist Church, having been baptized and confirmed there as a child. Marge belonged to VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, American Gold Star Mothers and Boyer Valley Sunshine Club for many years.

The loss of her husband and sons were very difficult times for her and her children. First Roger Clair died in Vietnam in December of 1968, then Clair in February of 1971 and lastly Gregory Lyle of Aids in October of 1993. Knowing they were together and safe in heaven was a comfort to all of them.

Marjorie died on Sunday, February 19, 2023, at Ridgewood Senior Living Center in Bennington, Nebraska at the age of 93 years, five months and 15 days.

Marge was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clair; sons, Roger and Greg; sister, Barby Long; and brothers, Bud, Mark and Rich Miles. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Jean McCord of St. Paul, Minnesota; son, Thomas Jay McCord and his wife Elaine of Bennington; grandsons, Jake Clair McCord and his wife Kylee of Ashland, Nebraska, Luke McCord and his wife Kelsey of Waterloo, Nebraska; Drew McCord and his wife Carly of Omaha; great-granddaughter, Josie Jean McCord; siblings, Jim Miles and his wife Marla of Colorado Spring, Colorado and Mary Ellen Wojtkewicz of Milliken, Colorado; sister-in-law, Darla Miles of Omaha; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many, many great friends and neighbors.
