Marie Barrier Yoakum

     Ola Marie Barrier Yoakum was born on February 23, 1937, in Claremore, Oklahoma to Roy and Rosa (Waldrup) Cates. Their family moved to Iowa when she was a young girl and she attended country school outside of Logan, Iowa. Marie was united in marriage to George Barrier in May of 1960. When she was not busy at home with their daughters, she worked at the Candy Kitchen in Logan, Bob’s Cafe in Woodbine, cleaned houses, babysat, worked at Westmont in Logan and Rose Vista in Woodbine and finally at Mosaic in Logan before retiring. In December of 1989 Marie was married to Del Yoakum and they lived in Council Bluffs, until his death two years later at which time she moved back to Logan. Marie was a long-time member of the Logan Christian Church.

     Marie always had a houseful. She loved when the kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren would spend time at the house, and had special toys and even a dedicated toy room for them. She also loved spending time with her many friend groups, whether that be the coffee group or the garage sale group, she loved the people she surrounded herself with.

     Marie died on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at Azria Health Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine, Iowa at the age of 86 years, five months and 16 days.

     Marie was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands, George Barrier and Del Yoakum; baby daughter, Brenda Kay Barrier; son-in-law, Keith Thompson; and siblings, Nick Cates and Agnes Cates. She is survived by her daughters, Rose Thompson of Logan and Sherry and her husband John Frazier of Shelby, Iowa; grandchildren, Nate Thompson, Tara (Jason) Poore, John (Sara) Frazier, Matt (Michelle) Thompson, Curtis Frazier, Sam (Johnny) Thompson and Stephanie Thompson (Brandon); great-grandchildren, Abbigael, Chaylyn, Jayce, Gabe, Rhylynn, Peyton, Emrys, Grayson, Levi and Willow; and many other relatives and friends.
