Marie Case

Theresa Marie (Henscheid) Case was born July 8, 1929 to Joseph and Marie (Mueller) Henscheid in Westphalia Township. She was raised in Westphalia and graduated from St. Boniface Catholic High School in Westphalia. Marie worked as a waitress in Harlan for two years. On May 4, 1950, Marie married Tom Case. Tom affectionately called Marie "Mert." The couple made their home in west central Iowa. They then settled in the Charter Oak area to farm and raise their family. They purchased a farm south of Charter Oak in 1966. The couple retired from farming in 1993.

Marie was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Charter Oak. She was also a member of the Unusual Club and a local card club. Marie enjoyed gardening, cooking, singing, and spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling and spending time with family during the holidays. She simply enjoyed being around people.

Marie died on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at the Dunlap Nursing and Rehab Center in Dunlap, Iowa at the age of 83 years, 11 months, and seven days.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tom on March 14, 2010; great-grandson, Jared Simon; two brothers, Jeron and Virgil Henscheid; and sister, Verena Schomers. She is survived by two daughters, Sandy Case of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Sharon (Byron) Gorden of Dow City; two grandchildren, Shawn Gorden and Rachel (Simon) Gorden; three great-grandchildren, Jeanna Simon, Jason and John Gorden; brother, Urbie Henscheid of Westphalia, Iowa; three sisters, Sally (Roman) Leuschen of Westphalia, Iowa, Jane (Leo) Rau of Omaha, Nebraska, Onie Smith of Council Bluffs, Iowa; sister-in-law, Theresa Henscheid of Westphalia, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
