   Alice Marie (Walker) Leonard was born December 8, 1907, to John Orville and Patience Lovey (Pitt) Walker in Persia, Iowa.  While she was a young girl, her parents moved to a farm near Woodbine where she attended Douglas Hill School. She graduated from Woodbine High School in 1927 after taking Normal Teachers Training.   She taught all grades at Sunny Dale�Douglas #8 school for one year. On June 12, 1928, she married Roy E. Leonard. To this union three children were born:  Dean, Gene, and Dorothy.  The couple farmed in La Grange Township for 26 years.  In 1940 they purchased their own farm in La Grange Township where they lived until 1968 when they sold the farm and moved to Logan.  Roy died December 9, 1992.
   
   Marie loved music and playing the organ.  She played the organ for the resident sing-a-longs at Westmont Care Center.  She also loved gardening.  Her roses bloomed continually and she frequently shared them with others.  Marie was a member of P.E.O. and Eastern Star where she became worthy matron. She helped with the American Cancer Society and K & A club.  Marie was an active member in the Woodbine and Logan Methodist Churches.  She also held a district office for United Methodist Women.
   
   Marie died July 11, 2005, at Longview Nursing Home in Missouri Valley, IA at the age of 97 years, 7 months, and 3 days.
   
   Marie was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sons, Dean and Gene, two sisters, Ruby Karp and Minnie Force; and five brothers, Vester, Leonard, Chester, Albert, and Lester Walker.  She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Ann and her husband Carl Woods of Council Bluffs, IA; two grandsons; Russell Woods and  Lori of Omaha, NE, David  Woods and Nancy of Everett, WA, three great grandchildren, Lisa, Kelley, and John; one brother, Lyle Walker of Harlan, IA; two sisters, Irma Williams of Logan, IA, and Velma Vining of Portland, OR; and many other relatives and friends.
