Maurine Lehan

Maurine Rose (Klein) Lehan was born May 4, 1917, to George and Katie (Muschitz) Klein in Persia, Iowa. She was raised in Persia and Earling, Iowa and attended school in Earling at St. Joseph Catholic School. Maurine worked on the farm with her parents. On February 15, 1938, Maurine married John Lehan at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Earling. The couple farmed in Shelby County ~ between Earling and Dunlap ~ and later west of Dunlap in Crawford County. John died on November 30, 1973. Maurine moved into Dunlap in 1976 and built a new home in 1978.

Maurine was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Altar Society and Catholic Daughters. She was also an EME and a member of a neighborhood club. Maurine loved to bowl, embroider tea towels, quilt, bake and make candy at Christmas time.

Maurine died Sunday, October 5, 2014, at SilverRidge Center in Gretna, Nebraska at the age of 97 years, five months, and one day.

Maurine was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Robert "Sid;" infant son, John Daniel; grandson, Donnie Hintz; two granddaughters, Erin & Laura Lehan; two great grandsons, Daniel and Bernard Kwapnioski; five brothers, Leo, Alfonse, Ray, Harold and Vern Klein; sister, Elva Graeve; and two sons-in-laws, Donald Hintz and Conrad Kwapnioski. She is survived by 10 children, Eileen (Andy) Jarosz, Norma Hintz all of Gretna, NE, Pauline Kwapnioski of Springfield, NE, Phyllis (Norman) Preister of Omaha, NE, Mike (Mary) Lehan of Dunlap, IA, Karen (Mike) Markey of Omaha, NE, Russ (Kristine) Lehan of Denison, IA, Rosie (Gary) Hartwig and Rick (Suzie) Lehan all of Gretna, NE, David (Pam) Lehan of Millard, NE; 37 grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
