Maynard Clark Harris was born July 5, 1932, to Delbert and Minnie (Nicholsen) Harris in Moorhead, Iowa. He was raised near Moorhead and graduated from high school in 1949. He attended Iowa State University for one year before returning home to Moorhead to farm. Maynard married Joyce Loomis on January 15, 1952, at the Methodist Church in Vermillion, South Dakota. The couple lived and farmed east of Moorhead.

Maynard was a member of the Moorhead Christian Church and served as a deacon. He drove the bus for the East Monona School District. He also was active in 4-H with his children and grandchildren. Maynard loved the game of golf and was a long time member of the Dunlap Golf Course. Maynard's nicknames were Tomcat and One Wood.

Maynard died on Friday, November 25, 2011, at his home in Moorhead at the age of 79 years, four months and 20 days.

Maynard was preceded in death by his parents and brother, D. Claire Harris. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Harris of Moorhead, Iowa; four children, Steve Harris of Moorhead, Iowa, Thomas Harris and his wife Sandy of Soldier, Iowa, Joan and her husband Kevin Swenson of Soldier, Iowa, David Harris and his wife Shon of San Antonio, Texas; 10 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; sister, Maxine Griffith of Mesa, Arizona; and many other relatives and friends.
