Murlyn Ronk

Murlyn Sylvester Ronk was born on November 30, 1916, to Glen and Adella (Pokett) Ronk near Hartington, Nebraska. The family moved to Woodbine in 1920 and then to Dunlap in 1928. Murlyn remained in the Dunlap area his entire life. Murlyn married Lillian Probasco on June 3, 1941. They began their married life on a rented farm east of Woodbine. In 1945 they purchased their own farm southeast of Dunlap. In 1974 they moved three miles closer to town. In 2004 they retired from the farm and moved into Dunlap.

Murlyn was a member of the United Methodist Church in Dunlap. He enjoyed dancing, family gatherings and in recent years having coffee with friends at Main Street Cakes and Gifts.

Murlyn died on Sunday, August 20, 2017, at his home in Dunlap surrounded by his family at the age of 100 years, eight months and 20 days.

Murlyn was preceded in death by his parents; son, Melvin Ronk; granddaughter, Kathryn Ronk; step granddaughter, Kelly Mascher; and two brothers, Elwin and Alva Ronk. He is survived by his wife of 76 years, Lillian Ronk of Dunlap, Iowa; four children, Murlyn F. Ronk and his wife Penny of Port Saint Lucie, Florida, Jerry Ronk of Omaha, Nebraska, Nancy and her husband Dennis Resset of Omaha, Nebraska and Terry Ronk and his wife Sally of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; daughter-in-law, Judy Ronk of Dunlap, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; 19 great grand-children; four step great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; one step great-great grandson; and many other relatives and friends.
