Nina Nelson

Nina Eleanor (Nelson) Nelson was born April 23, 1915, to James Gregory and Carrie Marie (Nelson) Nelson in Harlan, Iowa. She attended Laurel Elementary School and Harlan High School graduating with the class of 1932. Nina was married to Dale Arden Nelson on November 7, 1935. The couple farmed for three years and then took over Nina's father's dairy operation. Most of their life was spent farming, but in 1959 they moved to California while Dale was employed by the Los Angeles Police Department. They also lived in Oregon for 12 years. Nina held various executive secretary jobs through the years. In 1991, the couple returned to Woodbine. Dale died on January 4, 2006.

Nina was a member of the Woodbine United Methodist Church. She was baptized at the Harlan Danish Baptist Church in 1928. One of the special joys during Nina's retirement years was taking many enjoyable vacations in their van. Nina lived her life showing love and kindness to everyone. Her home and family were very important to her. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, crafts, etc.

Nina died on Saturday, March 17, 2018, at the Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine, Iowa at the age of 102 years 10 months, and 22 days.

Nina was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dale Nelson; and eight siblings, Agnes Knudsen, Lilas Peterson, Edith Petersen, Mildred, Clarence, Ella, and Edna Nelson and an infant sister. She is survived by two daughters, Janet (Harley) Mether of Woodbine, IA, Beverly (Ron Kuehn) Osbahr of Clearwater, FL; five grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; step grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
