Darrell Patrick Hawn was born on August 2, 1934, to Henry Joseph and Lola Audrey (Jones) Hawn in Dunlap, Iowa. He attended country school and St. Joseph Catholic School in Dunlap graduating in 1954. He then farmed with his father and sold Watkins Products. Pat moved to Missouri Valley and worked for the Omaha World Herald and then was dispatcher for the City of Missouri Valley. After his mother died, Pat moved to Omaha and lived with his sister, Audrey, until suffering a stroke in 1994. Pat has been in a nursing home for the past 20 years.

Pat was a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus in Missouri Valley, Iowa. Pat enjoyed cars, he loved to play bingo, go to musical programs at the care center, and listen to country music.

Pat died April 2, 2014, at the Nebraska Med Center in Omaha at the age of 79 years and eight months.

Pat was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers-in-law, Dennis Ehlert and Dan Miller and sister-in-law, Betty Hawn. Pat is survived by his five siblings, Vernon Hawn and his wife Phyllis of Hanford, California, Jack Hawn of Dunlap, Iowa, Audrey Baber of Omaha, Nebraska, Ardyth Miller of Springfield, Illinois and Lorraine Ehlert of Cambridge, Iowa; many nieces and nephews; numerous friends at the Douglas County Care Center; and other relatives and friends.

As Pat would say "Keep a Song in Your Heart."
