Paul Churchill

Paul Walter Churchill was born February 22, 1928, to George and Ida (Bintz) Churchill in Woodbine, Iowa. He was raised in Woodbine, attended school, and graduated from Woodbine High School. In 1945, Paul proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He served as a military policeman and was stationed in Germany. After his honorable discharge he returned to Woodbine to farm. On October 8, 1949, Paul married Irene McCann in the yard of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The couple farmed in the Harris Grove area for three years and then returned to Woodbine to farm. Paul also worked at the packing plant, as an electrician and drove a school bus through the years.

Paul was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Kiwanis, Logan VFW, and Saddle Club. He enjoyed woodworking and made more than 100 rocking horses. He would bring the rocking horses to family reunions and share with family members. He also made reindeer and snowmen. Paul enjoyed raising rabbits and African violets as well.

Paul died on Friday, June 16, 2017, at the Specialty Care Center in Dunlap, Iowa at the age of 89 years, three months, and 25 days.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Kim Churchill; eight siblings, George, Donald, Lester, and Raymond Churchill, Gertrude Ackerman, Fern Kenkel, Ida May Collins and Darlene Bouchereau. He is survived by his wife, Irene Churchill of Woodbine, Iowa; three children, Kent (Pam) Churchill of Red Oak, Iowa, Karen (Ed) Meiers of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Konda (Rick) Owens of Omaha, Nebraska; eight grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; sister, Vera Hummel of Wayne, Nebraska; and many other relatives and friends.
