Peggy Sue Pauley was born on October 29, 1957, at Bertha Hester Birthing Nursing Home in Pisgah, Iowa to Fred (Dick) and Dorthy Mae (Rockwell) Black. She started her life with her parents in Dunlap, Iowa, then when she was about 9 months, they moved to Woodbine in the house her mother still resides in. Peggy loved going out to her grandparents on the farm. People and especially children spent most summers at the local swimming pool. She volunteered as a candy striper at Rose Vista Nursing Home and was a babysitter. When she turned 16, she began working as a CNA at Rose Vista with her mother and loved it. She attended Woodbine Elementary Junior and High School and graduated in 1976. After graduation, she moved to Council Bluffs and worked as a children’s hostess at Bishop Buffet. After two years, she moved to Flagstaff, Arizona and worked as a nanny for two Indian children before moving back to Woodbine. She attended Great Plains Community College graduating with a Licensed Practical Nurse degree. Peggy met and married Gerald (Jerry) Pauley on June 23, 1984, and they resided in a rural farmhouse between Panama and Woodbine. While there, they were blessed with their first daughter, Rebecca Ann. They moved to Panama to their house they currently reside in and were blessed with their second daughter, Cassandra Ann. Peggy worked at Northcrest Care Center in Council Bluffs and then Jennie Edmundson Hospital (17 years), Alegent Clinic (7 years) and the Omaha Veterans Medical Center (15 years) along with Pauley’s Pub as needed, before retiring in 2020.
Peggy participated in a variety of groups through the years. She was a Girl Scout Leader, Sunday School Teacher, Bible School Leader, Panama Young Mother’s Club Member, Organizer and Director of Panama’s Annual Easter Egg Hunt, where she dressed her husband in many different costumes for the young children to enjoy, and she especially enjoyed attending her Girls’ Night Out group. Peggy loved flowers, feeding the birds, embroidering, visiting their lake house and most of all, spending time with her grandsons and grandpuppies.
Peggy died on Sunday, February 27, 2022, at her home in Panama, at the age of 64 years, three months and 29 days, after a long, courageous, hard fought battle with breast cancer.
