Preben Jensen

Preben Duckworth Jensen was born February 11, 1924, to Emil and Elna (Johansen) Jensen in Kosor, Denmark. At the age of two years old the family came to the United States and settled in Missouri Valley. Preben attended country school and the Missouri Valley public school. He helped his parents farm until he married Louise Golden in Missouri Valley in February of 1946. The couple farmed near Missouri Valley for a few years and then moved to Woodbine and then to Moorhead before returning to Woodbine. Preben also worked for the Harrison County Road Department as well as for other construction contractors until he started his own construction company. He retired from heavy equipment construction in the early 2000s. Louise died on December 5, 2009.

Preben was a member of the First United Methodist Church, in Woodbine. He also served on the board of trustees. Family was most important to Preben. He enjoyed dancing, playing cards and roller skating. He served as a Boys Scout Master and was also a baseball coach.

Preben died Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at the Westmont Care Center in Logan, Iowa at the age of 88 years, eight months, and 13 days.

Preben was preceded in death by his parents; wife Louise Jensen; son, John Jensen; son-in-law, Bill Whitmore; and sister, Carla McKean. He is survived by his son, Neil Jensen and his wife Bette; two daughters, Anita Whitmore all of Woodbine, Iowa, and Sue and her husband John Benedickt of Logan, Iowa; nine grand-children; 18 great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; and many other relatives and friends.
