Rex Rains

Rex Lorrin Rains was born July 28, 1938, in Nebraska City, Nebraska to William and Wilma (McAdams) Rains. Rex grew up in Peru, Nebraska and graduated from Peru Prep. Rex married Jo Winingham and the couple was blessed with four children. They operated a grocery store in Peru and then moved to Des Moines, Iowa. In the early 1970s Rex returned to Peru and owned and operated Rex's Café and the Dairy Shack. Rex moved to Woodbine and started cutting meat for Foodland. He then opened his own meat markets in Woodbine and Moorhead, Iowa. Rex married Anita Cary on February 2, 2002. In his later years he worked at Foodland and cooked at local establishments up until his death.

Rex enjoyed gardening, cooking and sports. Rex was an avid Nebraska Husker fan. He also loved his animals.

Rex died on Friday, November 22, 2013, as a result of an automobile accident at the age of 75 years, three months, and 25 days.

Rex was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Duane Rains. He is survived by his wife, Anita Rains of Dunlap, Iowa; four children, Bill (Anne) Rains of Omaha, NE, Cheryl (Jay) Mefferd of Dunlap, IA, Darreld (Tammy) Rains of Atlantic, IA, and Janet (Jim) VerWey of Spanaway, WA; three step-children, Winter Moore and fiancé Gerald Wilson of Fargo, ND, Wade (Erica) Cary of Reed Springs, MO, Whitney Hervey and fiancé Tony Trammer of Council Bluffs IA; 18 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; brother, Richard Rains of Omaha, Nebraska; and many other relatives and friends.
