Richard Hanny, Sr.

Richard "Dick" Laurence Hanny Sr. was born to Roderick and Winifred Jane (Cousins) Hanny on November 22, 1942, in Erie County, Buffalo, New York. He attended school at Eden Central High School in Eden, New York. He then joined the Air Force, where he proudly served his country for four years. Dick married Barbara Summerfield on May 31, 1964, in Omaha, Nebraska; and was married for over 53 years. After his honorable discharge, the family lived in Woodbine from 1968 - 1991. They then moved to Council Bluffs and in 2016, they moved to Omaha. Dick worked at IBEW Electrical Union Local 22 and Miller Electric. Dick was a journeyman electrician for 40 years, after learning the trade in the Air Force.

Dick was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Denison and St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Council Bluffs. He treasured spending time with his grand-children. Being a member of the Woodbine Jaycee's and camping with family and friends were things that he also enjoyed. He also liked traveling and working on home remodeling projects. Dick enjoyed raising Shelties and Pomeranian Dogs when he lived in Woodbine. He especially enjoyed sharing his construction knowledge with his son and grandsons.

Dick died at Edgewood Vista Nursing Home in Omaha, Nebraska on January 22, 2018, attaining the age of 75 years and two months.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Chris Hanny. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Barbara Hanny of Omaha, Nebraska; daughter, Wendy Hanny and son, Richard "Rick" (Julie) Hanny all of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren, Taylor (Matt) Burr of Syracuse, Nebraska, Reid Hanny of Kansas City, Missouri, and Kenner Zaloudek of Omaha, Nebraska; great granddaughter, Caroline Burr of Syracuse, Nebraska; sister, Linda (Dietmar) Wietz of Nunda, New York; sisters-in-law, Marla Barry and Marcia (Ron) Nelson all of Omaha, Nebraska; brother-in-law, Dale Summerfield of Woodbine, Iowa; and other family members and friends.
