Richard Sall

d. December 14, 2012

Woodbine, Iowa

Richard Benjamin Sall was born June 7, 1926, to Ben and Mary Mae (Jackson) Sall near Logan, Iowa. He attended country school in the Hardscratch area. At the age of 13 he left home and worked for area farmers. On June 18, 1944, Dick married Alice Hatcher. He then worked at the ammunition plant in Hastings, Nebraska before enlisting in the United State Army. He proudly served his country as a military policeman in the Philippines during WWII. After his honorable discharge he returned to Harrison County and started farming northwest of Logan on the Willow bottom. Dick bought a Champlain tank wagon and delivered fuel to area farmers. He also drove a creamery truck and a stock truck where he hauled livestock and grain and he shelled corn too. Dick was also an accomplished carpenter. The couple moved to Minnesota and he worked as a carpenter and cement truck driver. In 1995 they returned to Woodbine.

Dick was a lifetime member of the Logan VFW. He enjoyed gardening, building birdhouses in the winter, and watching the Martin birds use the houses in the spring and summer. He enjoyed fishing ~ particularly ice fishing. He always enjoyed visiting over a cup of coffee. Dick was a very kind and hard working man.

Dick died on Friday, December 14, 2012, at Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine, Iowa at the age of 86 years, six months, and 7 days.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents.
