Rick Moore

Ricky Moore was born on September 30, 1960, to Wilbur and Darlene (Nuzum) Moore in Onawa, Iowa. Rick graduated from East Monona High School in1979. In 1982, Rick began his lifelong passion for farming with his brother Brad. Together they farmed and fed cattle. On June 14, 2014, Rick married Julie Matz and the couple continued to live on the farm outside of Moorhead. During harvest the days were long, but Rick would take a break to enjoy meals that Julie would bring out to the field. The work was never done, he would spend countless hours in the Morton building tinkering around after a long day’s work. He enjoyed it when the grandkids would pay him a visit riding with him in the tractor or combine. Rick never left the house alone, he always had good company from his two loyal companions, Rascal and Wolfie. Whether it was a ride into town or riding in the combine, they were always by his side.

Rick was a member of the Moorhead Christian Church and was baptized in April of 1974. While in high school Rick was the vice president of the local FFA chapter. He was active with the Monona County Fair, the Monona County Cattlemen's and was a trustee for the Jordan Township. In his younger years Rick enjoyed coon hunting. Rick and Julie enjoyed traveling with Hawaii and Jamacia being two favorite destinations for Rick. He also enjoyed going to  concerts and to the Iowa State Fair. Rick loved his sweets. There was never a day that you couldn’t find a stash of Little Debbies and Dr. Pepper in his truck or office, and the grandkids knew where to go to find those snacks.

Rick died at his home, surrounded by loved ones, on   Sunday, September 3, 2023, at the age of 62 years.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Julie of Moorhead, Iowa; step-sons, Jacob Gillmor and his wife Andrea of West Des Moines, Iowa and Lucas Gillmor and his wife Molly of Denison, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Malana, Paisley, Tehan, Jackson, Perry, Davick and James Theodore; sister, Becky and her husband Dave Cohrs of Woodbine, Iowa; brother, Brad Moore and his wife Michelle of Soldier, Iowa; his loyal companions, Rascal and Wolfie; and many other relatives and friends.
