Rita Hartwig

Rita Mae Hartwig was born on April 15, 1927, to James and Ruth (McEvoy) McHugh in Allen Township in Harrison County, Iowa. She was raised near Woodbine and Moorhead and attended country school in both areas. Rita married Harold "Bubby" Hartwig on January 24, 1947, in Dunlap, Iowa. The couple lived their entire lives in the Dunlap area. Rita worked at the Dunlap Locker, for Gayle McNelly and also Heller's Town & Country. Harold and Rita also ran a milk route in the 1970s.

Rita was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. She loved to crochet afghans and each of her six grandsons have an afghan. She also loved to fish and camp.

Rita died on Friday, December 26, 2014, at the Dunlap Nursing and Rehab Center at the age of 87 years, eight months, and 11 days.

Rita was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold Hartwig; two sons, Bob and Billy Hartwig; and eight siblings. She is survived by her three children, Rose Ann and her husband Dennis Gross of Mount Vernon, IA, David Hartwig and his wife Teresa of Denison, IA, Kim Hartwig of Dunlap, IA; six grandsons; 14 great grandchildren; sister, Bernadette Leinen of Dunlap, IA; brother, Richard McHugh of Columbus, NE; and many other relatives and friends.
