Robert "Bob" McMains

     Robert Joseph “Bob” McMains was born on November 27, 1947, outside of St. Paul, Kansas to Joseph and Frances “Roberta” (Mitchell) McMains. He grew up in the St. Paul area and graduated from St. Paul High School in the class of 1965. Bob went on to further his education at Kansas State University and the University of Nebraska-Omaha. He moved to California where he worked at Canale Foods in El Monte. He also worked in food service at Servomation in Tulsa, Oklahoma and Dallas, Texas. Bob was a Certified Dietary Manager and was quite revered at many nursing homes in the Council Bluffs and Omaha area as well as Fremont, Nebraska and Joplin, Missouri. He also had a passion for flowers which led him to become an accomplished florist, owning Magnolia’s in the Old Market. Bob met his best friend and lifelong partner, Greg Brunow in Omaha in 1992 and they spent over 30 years together. They lived in many locations including Oronogo, Missouri, Parsons, Kansas, as well as Missouri Valley, Mondamin, Magnolia, Logan and Woodbine in Iowa.

     In addition to his talents as a florist, Bob was also renowned for his skills in the kitchen. A wonderful cook and baker, he especially excelled in making delicious pies that were enjoyed by friends and family alike. Bob took great pride in his garden where he spent countless hours tending to his plants and in his love for the outdoors.

     Bob passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at the age of 76 years, five months and 17 days.

     Bob was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Jack, Jeraldine, Mary, Shirley and William “Bill”; Greg’s mother, Amy (Wulff) Brunow; Greg’s siblings, David and Cindy; and his bulldog, Bessie. He is survived by his partner, Greg Brunow of Woodbine; sister, Ruth (Tom) Gordon of Bellevue, Nebraska; Greg’s father, Bruce Brunow of Logan; Greg’s sisters, Elaine Brunow (Ron Holben) of Prairie View, Kansas and Fran (Bill) Wendt of Woodbine; many nieces and nephews; canine friends, Bee Bee and Penny; and many other relatives and friends.

Per Bob's request there will be no services.
