Robert Elden Jones was born July 3, 1919, to George Thomas and Ruby (Chamberlen) Jones in Brayton, Iowa. Bob grew up in Atlantic, Iowa and graduated from Atlantic High School. Bob married Hazel Adams. The couple moved to Detroit, Michigan where Bob was a street car conductor and a brick wheeler. Bob enlisted in the Army during World War II. He was involved in the Battle of the Bulge, and he received a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. While Bob was in the service, Hazel and their son, Tom, moved to Woodbine. After Bob's honorable discharge he too returned to Woodbine. Bob and Tom mowed lawns together before Bob started working at the Gambles Store. He then managed the Woodbine Co-op Station and later became a mechanic at the Missouri Valley International Implement Dealership. Hazel died on April 24, 1994.
Bob attended the Christian Church in Woodbine. He enjoyed putting together clocks and other craft type things. He volunteered all over town, but he specifically helped at Rose Vista and with the meal site.
Bob died on Wednesday, March 15, 2006, at the Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine, Iowa attaining the age of 86 years, eight months, and 12 days.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Hazel; three sisters, Thelma Johnson, Mabel Jones, Leone Dant; and one brother, Marion Jones. He is survived by his son Tom Jones and his wife Karon of Fort Scott Kansas; four grandchildren, Kimberly Hope and Rodney Middleton, Kristi Lee and Dan Gregory, Kara Joy and Jared Wigger, and Tom Andrews Jones II; 13 great grandchildren; sister, Naomi Pickens of Elk Horn, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
