Rose (Dixon) Sturgill was born July 23, 1924, to James and Stella (Cornett) Dixon in Wooton, Kentucky.  She was one of 12 children.  Rose's dad was a school teacher and because of that she was an excellent speller.  Rose married Fred Sturgill on March 7, 1947 in Newport, Kentucky.  The couple then moved to Hamilton, Ohio.  In 1953, they moved to the Dunlap, Iowa area.
   
   Rose was a member of the First Christian Church.  Rose's passions were cooking and feeding others, gardening.  She especially loved her grandchildren and other family and friends.  Rose worked for 21 years cooking at the Dunlap school.
   
   Rose died on Wednesday, November 9, 2005, at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa, Iowa attaining the age of 81 years, three months, and 17 days.
   
   Rose was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Nell Wilson, Grace Sturgill, Susan Boggs, and Ruth Kelley; brothers, Wilson, Roosevelt, James Jr., and Harold Dixon; and special grand-nephew Kirk Sturgill.  Rose is survived by her husband of 58 years; children, James Ronald Sturgill of Dunlap, Iowa, Regina Rains of Woodbine, Iowa, John Sturgill and his wife Shelly of Onawa, Iowa; six grandchildren, Jill Shaffer, Josh, Andrew, and Kyle Kaufman, Curtis and Shelby Sturgill; one great grandson, Ezra Shaffer; sisters, Daisy Wells of Stamping Ground, Kentucky, Molly Morgan of Hoskinston, Kentucky; brother Nesby Dixon and his wife Jean of Fairfield, Ohio; special niece Sharon and her husband Jim Feltner of Trenton, Ohio; special nephew, Dana Sturgill and his wife Susan of Dunlap, Iowa;  three sisters-in-law, Gail Dixon of Hyden, Kentucky, Edith York and Kathleen and her husband Bill Chestnut all of Hamilton, Ohio; brother-in-law, Dennis Sturgill and his wife Karen of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
