Ryan Lee Kuhlman was born on December 14, 1988, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to Brent and Julie (Oliver) Kuhlman. He grew up in Moorhead, Iowa and attended East Monona before transferring to West Harrison, where he graduated in 2007. Sports were a big part of his life offering many incredible memories with his favorite being playing in the state baseball tournament three years in a row. Ryan worked for Western Engineering and became a fixture at the Oakland, Iowa plant, known for his consistency, strength and hard work. He was someone everyone at work could rely on and enjoyed working alongside his best friend, Wade Remington. In 2013, Ryan married his high school sweetheart, Blaire. Together, they welcomed three beautiful children: Lennox, Riggins and Dawsyn. Being a dad was Ryan’s proudest accomplishment. Whether it was coaching, cheering from the sidelines or piling into the car for family adventures to the zoo, gymnastics or wrestling meets, softball or baseball games or Husker games, Ryan was all in. Everything he did was for his family.
Ryan was the kind of person you just felt safe with. He was steady, loyal and his smile could light up a room. His presence made it feel like everything was going to be okay. He had a special way with babies and dogs who always loved him instantly, probably because they could sense what we all knew: he had a good heart. A die-hard fan through thick and thin, Ryan stayed forever optimistic about Nebraska football. He also cheered hard for his Atlanta Braves and his Pittsburgh Steelers. Win or lose, he always believed next season could be the one. Ryan had a gift for seeing the good in everything and everyone. He was a problem-solver, a quiet encourager and the kind of guy who never hesitated to lend a hand. His calm, thoughtful presence left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
Ryan died on Friday, June 13, 2025, at his home outside of Logan, Iowa at the age of 36 years, five months and 30 days.
Ryan was preceded in death by his grandpa, Gale Oliver. He leaves behind his partner in everything, Blaire, and their children, Lennox, Riggins and Dawsyn; parents, Brent and Julie Kuhlman of Moorhead; brother, Justin and Monica Kuhlman of Moorhead; grandparents, Norman and Judy Kuhlman of Moorhead and Vicki Oliver of Logan; parents-in-law, Trent and Renee Kuhl of Logan; brothers-and-sisters in law, Jeff and Kim Kuhl of Logan, Steph and Curtis Martindale of Logan and Taylor and Evan Mikels of Woodbine; nieces and nephews, Ella, Kalab, Easton, Jaycee, Kash, Kane, Greyson, Maisyn, Gable, Marleigh, Finley, Cael, Boston and Brooks; and many other relatives and friends.
More than anything, Ryan will be remembered for the way he loved... with loyalty, with strength and with his whole heart.
