Sally Hussing

Sally Sue Hussing was born on December 30, 1946, in River Sioux, Iowa to Joe and Ida (Little) Peasley. She added grade school in River Sioux and graduated from West Harrison in Mondamin, Iowa in 1965. Sally then attended Iowa Western Community College, earning her associate’s degree in business management. She worked as a waitress at Pearlies Restaurant and Marcie’s Café. On Friday, August 13, 1966, she was united in marriage to Jerry Hussing at the Christian Church in Onawa, Iowa. Sally devoted her career to the craft of sewing and tailoring. Her skill was evident in the wide variety of garments she created, tailoring men’s suits with precision and care, designing exquisite wedding gowns and bridesmaid dresses that brought joy to many special occasions. Her talents also extended to crafting unique attire such as the distinctive jump suits for the country western band, “Country Lads”, as well as cheer leading skirts and practical and stylish clothing for teachers and schoolchildren. Her ability to bring fabric to life reflected a remarkable attention to detail and a love for her work that touched the lives. She also owned and operated Country Treats Dairy Queen and worked at the Pizza Hut in Missouri Valley, Iowa and the Casey’s in Blenco, Iowa. Sally finally retired so she could spend more time being a grandma in 1990.

Sally was a devoted member of the Little Sioux Church of Christ. She found joy in pursuits such as reading, camping, fishing and square dancing, often embracing the cultural and social aspects of these activities. Additionally, Sally engaged in ceramics, mushroom hunting, cooking and gardening, with a particular passion for canning and bird watching. Her love for flowers added a touch of natural beauty to her surroundings. Sally also enjoyed traveling extensively to various states, including South Dakota, Missouri, Wisconsin, Illinois, Texas and Wyoming, where she explored new environments and took in the beauty that surrounded her. Throughout her life, one of Sally’s proudest accomplishments was her family. She dedicated her life to her beloved Jerry, three daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The care and dedication she invested in nurturing her family remain an enduring part of her legacy.

Sally died on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family, in Woodbine, Iowa at the age of 79 years, three months and two days.
