  .   Shirley Ann Harris was born on September 1, 1931, to Edward and Mona (Speer) Noyes in Valley, Nebraska. She attended District 22 School and graduated from Valley High School in 1949. Shirley met Herbert Harris and they were married on October 12, 1952. The couple moved from Valley to Omaha, Nebraska in 1961. Shirley worked for the Douglas County Courthouse in Omaha and then the bank in Valley. After the couple moved to Woodbine, Iowa she worked for the Eby Drug Store and then was the office manager at the Westmont Nursing Home in Logan, Iowa.

     Shirley was a member of the First Christian Church in Woodbine and of the PEO. She was a dedicated patron of the library and even served on the library board. Shirley loved spending time at the library playing board games, reading books and drinking coffee. She truly appreciated the knowledge and community the library provided her with. Shirley also loved playing cards and dancing. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She cherished family get-togethers, and her warmth and kindness were felt by all who knew her.

     Shirley died on Monday, June 5, 2023, at her home in Woodbine, Iowa at the age of 91 years, nine months and four days.

    Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herb Harris; grandson, Reid Clark; great-grandson, Elijah Baldwin; son-in-law, Chris Dreyer; and brother, Allen Noyes. She is survived by her six children, Cheryl Dreyer of Farragut, Iowa, Mary and Rolly Clark, Sandy and Dan Barry, Doug Harris and Kim, Liz and Jim Lenz and Scott Harris and Shawna all of Woodbine; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Carolyn Gabriel of Santa Rosa, California; and many other relatives and friends.

 

MEMORIAL DONATIONS MAY BE MADE TO THE WOODBINE FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH OR THE WOODBINE CARNEGIE PUBLIC LIBRARY.
