Suzuko "Suzie" (Matvso) Thomas was born January 10, 1933, to Toshiro and Yoshi (Nakavro) Matvso in Nagasaki City, Japan. She was raised in Nagasaki City and attended public school until she was 15 and later attended night school for three years. Suzie worked for the local post office when she meet Russell Thomas and later married him in December of 1958. The couple moved to the United States in December of 1961 and lived on Russell's family farm to help his parents. The couple continued to farm until Russell's death on February 20, 1980. Suzie also became a U.S. Citizen in 1980. Susie moved into Dunlap in 1982 and worked at the Dunlap Nursing and Rehab Center for 26 years until her retirement in 2005. Suzie became a resident at the Dunlap Nursing and Rehab Center in 2011.

Suzie enjoyed spending time with friends and family, working on crossword puzzles, playing Bingo and also crocheting.

Suzie died on Monday, September 11, 2017, at the Dunlap Specialty Care at the age of 84 years, seven months, and 22 days.

Suzie was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Russell Thomas. She is survived by her three nieces, Charlotte (Joe) McCurdy of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Marty (Steve) Hooten of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Deb (Ben) Benefield of Roland, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
