Tom Harris

Thomas Delbert Harris was born December 14, 1955, to Maynard and Joyce (Loomis) Harris in Onawa, Iowa. Tom grew up east of Moorhead and graduated from East Monona High School in 1974. Tom married Deb Hull on June 14, 1974. To this union three children were born, Rick, infant daughter that died at birth and Casey. They made their home in Moorhead. Tom worked at various jobs over the years including at the Moorhead Coop, for Raymond Severson, for Terry Swain putting up bins, Crop Production Services (CPS) and he owned and operated Harris Trucking and farmed the family farm. On March 27, 2010, Tom married Sandra Lee Olson at the Bethesda Lutheran Church in Moorhead. The couple made their home in Soldier, Iowa.

Tom was baptized at the First Christian Church in Moorhead. He enjoyed Harleys, trucking and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Tom was a fanatic at keeping his vehicles and property clean and neat. He always wore gloves to help keep his hands clean. He was currently restoring a 1980 Chevy pickup. He absolutely loved to be with his grandchildren, teasing them and letting them have ice cream at any time if the day. He was very proud of farming the Harris Family Century Farm.

Tom died on August 2, 2013 at his home in Soldier at the age of 57 years, seven months, and 20 days.

Tom was preceded in death by his father on November 25, 2011, his infant daughter on September 8, 1978, and his father-in-law, Kenneth Lee. He is survived by his wife, Sandy Harris of Soldier, Iowa; two children, Rick (Heather) Harris of Dunlap, Iowa, their children Reagan & Hannah; Casey (Todd) Pape of Pisgah, Iowa and their sons, Tucker & Tate; mother, Joyce Harris of Moorhead, Iowa; three step-daughters, Stacy (Nick) Brandon of Soldier, Iowa and her daughter, Cady Helton, Carly (Bob) Snider of Omaha, Nebraska and their daughter, Kherington, Marcy Olson and fiancée Nick Melby of Dunlap, Iowa and his daughter Abby; three siblings, Steve Harris and special friend Denise Beneda of Moorhead, Iowa, Joan (Kevin) Swenson of Soldier, Iowa, David (Shon) Harris of San Antonio, Texas; mother-in-law, LaVirta Lee of Soldier, Iowa; brother-in-law, Dennis (Nudcha) Lee of Phoenix, Arizona; sister-in-law, Vicky Lee of Seattle, Washington; and many other relatives and friends.
