Vera Viola Surber Siefken was born November 16, 1908, in Woodbine, Iowa to Willard and Eugenia (Newcomb) Surber. She was raised in the Woodbine area and graduated from Woodbine High School. She continued her education with the Normal Teacher's Training, and taught school for eight years at Sunny Glen Country School. On May 14, 1938, she married Roy G. Siefken at the Christian Church Parsonage. The couple farmed north of Woodbine until they moved to the farm east of town in 1945. They retired from farming in 1974 and moved to town in April of 1978. Roy died on October 18, 1978.
Vera was a member of the Christian Church, Christian Women's Fellowship, American Legion Auxiliary, a Neighborhood Club, AARP, and the Senior Citizens Center.
Vera died April 30, 2004, at the Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine, Iowa reaching the age of 95 years, five months and 14 days.
   Vera was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother Paul Surber; and sister Iva Jacobs.  She is survived by her two sons Gary Siefken and his wife Mary Lynn of Nevada, Iowa, and Keith Siefken and his wife Susan of Denison, Iowa; sister LaRue Woodard of Milford, Iowa; seven grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
