Vida Cox

Vida Christine (Holliman) Cox was born on May 19, 1930, to David and Daphne (Nelson) Holliman in Wilmore, Comanche County, Kansas. She was the second of five children. The family moved to Fremont County, Iowa in the spring of 1934. She attended country school and graduated from Riverton High School in 1948. Vida attended Tarkio College in Tarkio, Missouri for two years. She taught second grade in Macedonia, Iowa for two years and then taught third grade in Onawa, Iowa for two years. Vida married Dorance Cox on June 6, 1954, at the Methodist Church in Riverton, Iowa. The couple purchased land in Allen Township in the early 1950s and lived there for 32 years. The couple retired and moved into Woodbine on April 7, 1990.

Vida was an active member of the Woodbine First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed the church circle and took great pride in being the church's historian. She also loved to bake, sew, travel, attend auctions and flea markets, collect Hull pottery and belong to the neighborhood clubs over the years. She also loved spending time with her grandsons.

Vida died on January 25, 2013, at the Rose Vista Nursing Home at the age of 82 years, eight months, and six days.

Vida was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dorance on July 7, 2009; and two sisters, Nadine Holliman and Metta Buehler. She is survived by her three children, David Cox and Kelie Haken of Magnolia, Iowa, Keith Cox of Moorhead, Iowa, Karen and Duane Burmeister of Pisgah, Iowa; three grandsons, Eric (Sarah), Greg, and Ryan Burmeister; two brothers, Lynn and Verna Holliman of Tyler, Texas, Duane and Anita Holliman of Prescott, Arizona; and many other relatives and friends.
