Violet Marie Finken was born on April 22, 1927, outside of Woodbine, Iowa to Fred and Helen (McGee) Peterson. She attended school in Woodbine, graduating in the class of 1945. Violet went on to further her education at the Methodist College of Nursing where she graduated in 1948. Violet was married to Wallace Finken on September 24, 1948, and they were blessed with nine children. Violet worked for a time at Boltes Café in Woodbine but for over 60 years she dedicated her life to caring for others as a nurse. She worked at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, Community Memorial Hospital in Missouri Valley, Iowa, Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa and at the Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine.
Violet enjoyed being outdoors in her free time. She loved working in her garden and doing yardwork. She also enjoyed taking care of her chickens, ducks, geese and horses.
Violet died on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at her home outside of Woodbine at the age of 95 years, four months and 29 days.
Violet was preceded in death by her parents; son, Warren Finken; and siblings, Ed Peterson, Lavern Peterson, Richard Peterson, Carolyn Beaman and Ken Peterson. She in survived by her children, Carol Finken of Luxembourg, Janice Keller of Phoenix, Arizona, Nina Brummer of Gretna, Nebraska, Wayne Finken of Woodbine, Bonnie Verquer of Gilbert, Arizona, Wade Finken of Woodbine, Sheila Finken of Cornville, Arizona and Sheri Finken of Cornville, Arizona; grandchildren, Alex, Chad, Heather, Tina, Brett, Nathan, Danielle, Brittni, Micah, Ronica, Rachelle and Ryan; 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Phyllis Ballard of Huson, Montana; sister-in-law, Shirley Peterson of Hampshire, Illinois; and many other relatives and friends.
There will be no public services.
