Virginia Donn

Virginia May (Barry) Donn was born November 17, 1925, to Orville and Olga (Johnson) Barry on the Barry family farm near Woodbine, Iowa. Virginia spent the first year of her life in her baby buggy in the barn as the barn was being built. She was raised near Woodbine and attended country school and graduated from Woodbine Normal School in 1943. She then taught at the Barry Country School, Lincoln Country School #4 and Shady Corner Country School. Virginia married her high school sweetheart Lyle Donn on December 1, 1946, at the Methodist Church in Woodbine. The couple farmed the Donn family farm for many years. Lyle died on September 22, 2010.

Virginia was a member of the United Methodist Church in Woodbine. She loved taking care of her Hereford cows, gardening, canning and cooking. Virginia raised chickens and was very proud to say that she never bought an egg. She enjoyed creating wedding cakes, crocheting, embroidery and sewing. Virginia was very self-sufficient by making Lyle's shirts and Debbie's clothing. Additionally she built her own kitchen cupboards. Virginia loved being outdoors and riding her 4-wheeler.

Virginia died on Wednesday, September 3, 2014, at the Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine, Iowa at the age of 88 years, nine months, and 17 days.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lyle Donn; brother, Leo Barry and sister, Eunice Gray. She is survived by her two children, Cary (Glenda) Donn of Woodbine, Iowa, Debbie (Mike) McFee of Fremont, Nebraska; six grandchildren, Joann (Steve Spelts) McFee, Ryann McFee, Renee (Eric Roumph) McFee, Brenda (Nick) Loftus, Brian (Stephanie) Donn, Brittney Donn; seven great grandchildren, Lane Pitt, Caleb Loftus, Aidan Roumph, Emerson Donn, Christopher Spelts, Nicholas Spelts, Audrey Donn; brother, Ralph (Jeanelle) Barry of Woodbine; and many other relatives and friends.
