Viva Buttery

Viva Marie (Bedsaul) Buttery was born June 17, 1932, near Magnolia, Iowa to Isaac Perne and Sarah Ellen (Baxter) Bedsaul. She was raised in the Mondamin area and graduated from Mondamin High School in 1958. On July 16, 1949, Vi married Donald Lloyd Buttery in Omaha, Nebraska. She attended Iowa Western College and became a nurse. She worked at the Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Missouri Valley Hospital, Immanuel Hospital in Omaha and then helped set up and manage an Alzheimer’s Unit at the Bethany Lutheran Home in Council Bluffs. Vi had to retire in 1993 due to health reasons.

Vi was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Logan and the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution). She went on a 13 month mission on Family History in Hemet, California.

Vi died on Monday, June 13, 2011, at the Longview Nursing Home in Missouri Valley, Iowa at the age of 78 years, 11 months, and 27 days.

Vi was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald Buttery; and brother, Norman Bedsaul. She is survived by her son, Donald Eugene Buttery of Tucson, Arizona; three grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
