WE ASK THAT YOU LINE THE STREETS ON THE WAY TO THE CEMETERY TO SHOW YOUR LOVE AND SUPPORT FOR THE BISSEN FAMILY.

Walter Herman “Pedro” Bissen was born on October 17, 1922 to Nicholas and Clara (Book) Bissen in Earling, Iowa. He was raised in the Earling area, attended, and graduated from St. Joseph Catholic High School in Earling. Following his high school graduation, Walt began his farming career. Walt met Catherine Brandt at one of the many dances he attended. The couple married on April 28, 1953, in Denison, Iowa. They lived and farmed in the Earling area.
Walt was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and The Knights of Columbus. He loved to play and watch baseball ~ especially the St. Louis Cardinals. He coached baseball and basketball, umpired baseball and softball, bowled, played cards and horseshoes. He enjoyed telling jokes, stories, and performing card tricks ~ especially Big Joe Little Joe.
Walt died on Friday, March 27, 2020 at the Crawford County Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of 97 years, five months and 10 days.
Walt was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Mary; four infant sisters, Irene, Leona, Adella II and Hulda; infant brother, Leo; three adult brothers, Nick Jr., Sylvan, and Joseph Bissen and eight adult sisters, Hilda Katzer, Marie Bruck, Adella Stracke, Cyrilla Pauley, Evelyn Smith, Sister Helen Bissen, Mildred Smith and Theresa Behrendt. He is survived by his wife, Catherine (Brandt) Bissen of Dunlap, Iowa; nine children, Eugene Bissen of Defiance, Iowa, Gary (Jane) Bissen of Earling, Iowa, Geralyn “Geri” (Mike) Anderson of Dunlap, Iowa, Myron (Patti) Bissen, Twyla (Delbert) Matheny and Helen (Terry) Wolters all of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Richard (Elisa) Bissen of Keller, Texas, Kevin Bissen and Karen Bissen both of Harlan, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; six step grandchildren six great grand-children; 10 step great grand-children and many other relatives and friends.
