Yvonne McNelly

Yvonne "Sandy" Edna (Sandage) McNelly was born July 7, 1922, to Cleveland R. and Vergie (Wooden) Sandage in Pawnee, Missouri. She was raised in Pawnee and graduated from Eagleville High School. Sandy married Gayle McNelly on October 27, 1942, in Kansas City, Missouri. Sandy then attended beauty school in St. Joseph, Missouri. The couple farmed in Bethany, Missouri and then in Dunlap. Sandy operated Sandy's Beauty Shop in Dunlap from 1953 ~ 2000. Gayle died on January 24, 2002.

Sandy was a member of the RLDS Church in Dunlap, Iowa. She enjoyed painting on pillowcases and dish towels. She collected silver jewelry boxes and steins. She sponsored and bowled on a bowling league.

Sandy died on Monday, December 19, 2011, at the Dunlap Nursing and Rehab Center at the age of 89 years, five months, and 12 days.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gayle McNelly; two brothers, Boyd and Lloyd Sandage; and sister, Alberta Marriott. She is survived by her son, Ron McNelly and his wife Sandy of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota; three granddaughters, Angela Gunderson, Traci and her husband Rick Lowman, and Tara and her husband Chris Skogheim; eight great grandchildren, Ryan, Matthew and Andrew Gunderson, Hunter and Madison Lowman, Stella, Andrew and Elijah Skogheim; two brothers, Richard Sandage and his wife Deanna of Jefferson, Iowa, Dean Sandage and Pat Leinen of Dunlap, Iowa; sister, Leona and her husband Horace Graves of Harlan, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
