Mary Martha (Keuter) Haner was born on August 6, 1913, near Dunlap, Iowa to parents Herman John and Mary Elizabeth (Book) Keuter. Martha attended school in the Dunlap area. Mary Katherine (McDunn) Adams was born August 6, 1908, to parents Olive (Fornia) and Francis P. McDunn in Woodbine, Iowa. She grew up in the Woodbine area and graduated from St. Joseph Catholic School in Dunlap. On May 21, 1927, she married Daniel Adams.
