Betty Lucille (Davis) Hartwig was born on August 18, 1928, to Fred and Pearl (Lewis) Davis, near Dunlap, Iowa. She attended Dunlap schools and graduated in 1945. Betty was united in marriage to Donald Hartwig on August 15, 1948, at the United Methodist Church in Dunlap. The two made their home in Dunlap.
Betty worked at the doctor’s office in Dunlap for over 30 years. She loved to dance and visit with people. Her favorite pastime was golfing. She enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre. Betty’s personal motto was, “love life and love living” which she did.
Betty died on January 18, 2020, at the Dunlap Care Center, at the age of 91 years and five months.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald Hartwig on September 16, 1987; two great-grandsons, Marcus and Devin Hartwig; four brothers, Jordan, Pat, James, and Jerry Davis; and sister, Madeline Sneethan. She is survived by her son Byron Hartwig and his wife Mary Jo of Battle Creek, Iowa; three granddaughters, Teresa and her husband Kurt Soellner of West Des Moines, Iowa, Trudie and her husband Beau Jacobsen of Neola, Iowa, and Tonya and her husband Justin Amerine of West Des Moines, Iowa; seven great-grandchildren, Alizabeth, Kade, Julius, Harper, August, Liam and Rowyn; six siblings, Ruth Nagengast of Albert City, Iowa, Dorothy Albert of Dunlap, Sally and her husband Chuck Mitchell of Dunlap, Ila Buffum of Logan, Bill Davis of Cedar Lake, Indiana, and Paul Davis and his wife Bonnie of Missouri Valley, Iowa; self-adopted son, Mark Barrett and his wife Jody of Ankeny, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
