Bonnie J. (Stueve) Hornbeck was born August 7, 1932, to Manlee and Hazel (Ruffcorn) Stueve where she grew up on a farm near what is now Desoto Bend Wildlife Refuge outside Missouri Valley, Iowa. Bonnie attended Missouri Valley schools where she played basketball, was a cheerleader and led the band as a Majorette. She graduated in 1950. Bonnie married Bill Hornbeck of Logan, Iowa on September 24, 1950, in Missouri Valley. Bill and Bonnie lived in Oklahoma while Bill served in the Army during the Korean War. After Bill’s time in the service, they moved to Logan and Bonnie remained there for over 50 years. They had two children, Lori, and Bill Joe. Bonnie worked for many years for the Moore Brothers Supermarkets as both a bookkeeper and manager. In later years, Bonnie had her own business as a Mary Kay Consultant in her home. Bonnie moved to Spirit Lake in 2016 to assisted living to be near her daughter, Lori.

Bonnie and Bill were both avid supporters of sports for the community and their children and grandchildren and Bonnie, later her great-grandchildren. Bill and Bonnie owned a cottage on Big Spirit Lake where they spent many summers with their family. Bonnie was a member of the Logan United Methodist Church and was also very active in the United Methodist Women, Girl Scouts, Chamber of Commerce and served on the Board of Westmont Nursing Home.

Bonnie died on Monday, September 5, 2022 at the Accura Healthcare Center in Spirit Lake, Iowa at the age of 90 years and 28 days.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bill; son, Bill Joe Hornbeck and brother, Bob Stueve. Survivors include daughter, Lori Madsen and husband Alan of Spirit Lake, Iowa; granddaughter, Tami Maben and fiancé Darrick Grems of Spirit Lake and great grandson, Doug Maben of Ankeny, Iowa; granddaughter, Anne Meers and husband Jason and great granddaughters, Alaina, and Audra of LaPlace, Louisiana; grandson, Adam Madsen of Omaha, Nebraska; grandson, Chris Madsen of Hilo, Hawaii; daughter-in-law, Jean Hornbeck of South Sioux City, Nebraska; grandson, Tim Hornbeck and wife Molly, and great granddaughters, Augusta and Samantha of Columbus, Nebraska; granddaughter, Paige Butler and husband Scott and great grandsons, Aiden and Tagg of Rochester, Minnesota; nephew, Jerry Stueve and wife Mary; niece, Sherry Fay and husband Dennis, great nieces, other relatives, and many friends.
