Carolyn Howard

The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Pisgah Reach Out Group.

Carolyn Ilene (Carrigan) Howard was born on  December 17, 1928, to Lyle H. and Evelyn Tillie (Wallis) Carrigan in rural Woodbine, Iowa. Carolyn was raised near Pisgah and graduated from Pisgah High School as the valedictorian. Carolyn married Everett Howard on May 24,1948, in Missouri Valley, Iowa. In 1959, the family moved to Scott County, Iowa near Maysville for Everett’s job.

Carolyn found out that it was time to take the local census and help was needed with the polls. She went to Chicago to learn more about the process. While in Chicago, she found out about a full-time job opening as a government census taker. She was hired for the position and worked in that career for many years. She also worked in the unemployment and theft crimes divisions. After Everett’s death, Carolyn and Denise returned to the Pisgah area.

Carolyn enjoyed gardening and had an organic vegetable garden and many other flower gardens. She also enjoyed sewing and quilting. Most of all Carolyn enjoyed spending time with her family.

Carolyn died on Saturday, June 19, 2021, at the Dunlap Specialty Care at the age of 92 years six months and two days.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Everette Howard; infant son, Rodrick William Howard; son, Lyle Eugene “Gene” Howard; daughter, Denise Howard and sister, Twylia Hinkel. She is survived by two sons, Drew Howard of Pisgah and Lynn (Victoria) Howard of Camdenton, MO; grandson, Nathan Howard; three great grandchildren; four siblings, Jeanne Pratt of Moorhead, IA, Barbara (Kenneth) Wimer of Woodbine, IA, Ronda Steinhoff of Syracuse, NE, Randy (Kerri) Carrigan of Soldier, Iowa; brother-in-law, Robert Hinkel of Pisgah; and many other relatives and friends.
